Cycling and walking in le Marche

Walking and cycling in le Marche

The southern part of le Marche is for everyone, young and old, sporty or recreational, very suitable for cycling and walking. Of course along the coast is beautiful walking and cycling. But for those who are more sporty, the beautiful hilly landscape is worth a visit. And for those who are really looking for a challenge, the Monte Sibillini is a true paradise!
The most famous hiking trails are:
  • Gola dell'Infernaccio
  • Piano di Castelluccio
  • Lago di Pilato
  • Lago di Fiastra
But there are also nice other hiking trails to make. Organized or independent, short and long walks, difficult or difficult. Everything is possible.
  • To walk a route yourself in the area where you are staying, it is advisable to look at the "Wiciloc" website. This site offers many possibilities with extensive information. All you have to do is enter the region or place name.
  • Organized walks are organized by Dino Gazzani. He shares the new program on his site every month. See "www.marcheinspalla.com" for this.
Le Marche is ideal for going out by bike. Both the racing bike or mountain bike, the sporty cyclist or mountain biker can get their money's worth here. It is not for nothing that the Giro d’Italia visits Le Marche almost every year. In the south of Le Marche you will find one of the most beautiful nature parks in Italy, the Monte Sibillini. With the cities of Amandola, Sarnano and Arquata del Tronto as a starting point, there is an unprecedented number of possibilities to go out by bike or mountain bike.
Of course it is not 'mandatory' to go into the mountains. In many places you can cycle through the wonderful hilly landscape of Le Marche. With the mountain bike it is also great to wander the many strade bianche, the white gravel roads, where you can experience the countryside well.

There is a 15-kilometer flat cycle path that runs from Cupra Marittima to Porto Ascoli and connects these seaside resorts with Grottammare and San Benedetto del Tronto. But as soon as you go inland it is climbing and descending, unless you opt for the main roads through the valleys that go 30 kilometers false flat towards the high Monti Sibillini.

The area between the Adriatic Sea and the high mountains is characterized by quiet country roads that are easy to ride on a racing bike. The mountain biker can indulge in the many paved roads but must not be afraid of slopes of a 20% rise. The monumental towns with the cozy village squares are all on top of the hills between 300 and 600 meters.

Good bikes, mountain bikes and racing bikes can be rented at CarlitosBike in Cupra Marittima. They offer a good price and pleasant service.
"Wiciloc" and "Strava" are interesting websites with various bike rides on different levels.
